What is a Parent Asset?

  • A Parent Asset is an Asset that has been assigned an Asset, a Component Asset.
  • A Parent Asset can have many Components assigned to it.
  • A Parent can receive a Component Asset from a different zone.
  • Administrator and Technician users need to have Manage Asset Component permission so that they can assign Components Assets.
  • On transfer, Parent Asset moves with all the Component Assets, the receiving zone needs to accept all Asset Types.
  • Parent Assets do not have an Assign to Asset option.
  • Parent Assets can have Components with different Asset Types.
  • Parent Asset can be decommissioned, the Components get detached.
  • Parent Asset can be viewed on all Asset dashboards; they have a Parent icon next to them.
